Hatshepsut

Hatshepsut was the first woman to gain full power as a Pharaoh after her husband died and she assumed power acting in place of the heir who was only an infant. She decided to keep the power which was a very controversial move at the time. Hatshepsut's stepson was said to have destroyed all evidence of Hatshepsut's rule and as a result her existence was a great mystery until 1822 when scholars were able to read hieroglyphs depicting her rule.
